The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) is proud to sponsor the Ada Songwriters Weekend, an extension of the Oklahoma Songwriters Festival, which celebrated their inaugural year in 2016. This two-day event will kick off Friday, January 27, with a V.I.P. dinner and continue into Saturday, January 28, with a “Songwriting 101” panel session and special “writer round” songwriter showcase on at Ada’s Grandview Event Center at 7:00 p.m. The songwriter showcase will feature performances by several talented Oklahoma songwriters and prolific Nashville songwriters, including festival founder and Ada, Oklahoma, native Zac Maloy.
Established and aspiring songwriters from across the state are invited to attend the “Songwriting 101” panel session on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. in room 158 of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Building at East Central University. Distinguished panelists include Zac Maloy, Marcus Hummon and Dwayne O’Brien, who will share their expertise on the music industry and the songwriting industry with the audience, followed by a Q&A session. There is no cost to attend the panel.
Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m., the Ada Songwriters Weekend songwriter showcase will take place at the Grandview Event Center, located at 201 E. Main in Ada. This will be an intimate “writer in the round” style performance, a format frequently used in Nashville as it allows songwriters the opportunity to perform their original songs and tell the stories of how the songs were created.
The Songwriter Showcase brings a special opportunity for local music fans to experience performances by some of Nashville’s most acclaimed songwriters. New music will be performed by Marcus Hummon, who wrote the Grammy Award winning Rascal Flatts song “Bless the Broken Road” and the Dixie Chicks’ famed “Cowboy Take Me Away” and Dwayne O’Brien, a founding member of Little Texas and longtime Nashville songwriter. Festival founder Zac Maloy, who scored several rock hits as singer for the Oklahoma-based band The Nixons, and writer of “Temporary Home” by Carrie Underwood and “Come Back to Me” by David Cook, will also perform.
