In 2005, West 2nd and Hamilton House Studio D merged to form what is now The Music Group, a two-studio complex located in Edmond, Oklahoma, and is involved in every facet of recording. They constructed a new recording facility from the ground up, and it was designed by George Newburn of Studio 440 in Hollywood, California. This merger opened them up to a wider range of artists and music, and it set them apart from other recording facilities in the Central US. They regularly work on anything from advertising to full on music production, and cater to independent artists as well as those signed to major labels.
Tell us about how and why you started your business?
In 2005, Hamilton House Studio, operated by LG Hamilton, and West Second Recording, operated by Chris Freels, merged and built The Music Group Studio, a two-studio facility designed from the ground up.
What services do you provide within the film/music industry?
The Music Group can do ADR, film mixing and scoring and soundtrack recording and mixing.
Can you describe how your company has grown to meet the needs of Oklahoma’s film and/or music industry?
We are still very new in this area but looking to be a huge part.
What are the benefits of basing your company’s operations in Oklahoma?
We were born and raised here. And while we had the opportunity to move anywhere, we love Oklahoma and its people and the quality of life.
Has your company experienced growth over the last 3-5 years? If so, how?
While so many small business were forced to close throughout COVID restrictions, The Music Group grew. Maybe it was because bands couldn’t tour and decided it was a good time to record. But no doubt its the blessings of God.
What would you consider your business’s greatest accomplishment to date?
Without question our greatest accomplishment is going from two home studios over 30 years ago to one of Oklahomas premiere studios. Over 30 years of operation.
What are you working on now/next?
Nothing currently in film but we are in production with several local artists.
What is your goal/vision for the future of your company?
We would love for our studio to continue beyond our careers and serve as an impacting contributor to the Oklahoma music and film scenes.
What advice do you have for others who are considering starting a film or music business in Oklahoma?
Be prepared to work hard and sacrifice.
What opportunities do you believe await Oklahoma’s film/music industry in the future?
Oklahoma is on the way up in regards to opportunity. So many outside the state not only see the talent but they see the amazing people and way of life provided to bringing work here.
