Film Artist for September 2019: Ann Laudick

Originally from Edmond, Oklahoma, Ann Laudick began her career in film, commercial and television production after graduating summa cum laude with a BA in Film and Media Studies from the University of Oklahoma. She has worked as a Second Assistant Director on a number of Oklahoma productions, including “The Scent of Rain and Lightning”, “Whaling”, “In the Rough” and “Robot Riot”.

While earning her master’s degree in Media Studies from the University of Oregon, Laudick studied 16mm sexual education film from the 1960s-70s. She also taught and assisted in a number of film studies and production courses.

“I love studying and writing about film, but I’m also drawn to the challenge of bringing cohesion and order to the chaos that often permeates production,” said Laudick. “Production keeps me on my toes and provides unique opportunities for learning something new and surprising myself. Monotony is non-existent in this field, and that’s something I’ve grown to appreciate.”

Since Laudick has returned to Oklahoma, she has worked on commercial productions with ESPN, Mountain Dew, the OKC Thunder and others as a Production Coordinator and Second Assistant Director. Most recently, she worked as 2nd AD on the feature film “Minari”.

“There’s an elevated enthusiasm for filmmaking in Oklahoma. This is a community that values hard work and perseverance, both qualities that are necessary in media production. I’m lucky to work with people who care about what they do and have the drive to create.”
