Spunk Adams is an award-winning saxophonist who has opened for the likes of Layla Hathaway and Chrisette Michele. He leads a full jazz band as well as a jazz trio and has the chops to gig solo and still fill the stage! Based in Oklahoma City, Adams has traveled, toured and shared the stage with legends, a title he is sure to attain himself, in what will surely be a long and storied career.
How did you get started?
Music has always been a part of my life. I started off playing the drums by ear at two years old. From there, I went on to study clarinet and saxophone in middle school. I continued to play sax through high school and started performing right after.
Did you always want a career in the music industry?
Yes and no. I’ve always known that I loved music, but I also understood that being a musician or entertainer is not an easy lifestyle choice. I learned a lot about the industry early.
Most Recent Successes / Placements / Accomplishments / Projects? Career highlight?
Most recent successes lol waking up this morning …. I really don’t keep a lot of favorites. I’ve had the opportunity to share stages with world-renowned musicians and artist of all kinds. I’ve worked with artists such as Lalah Hathaway, Vandell Andrew, Case, Dominque Taplin, T-Rell, Gang51 E June and the list goes on.
What is your favorite Oklahoma music venue, music store, or recording studio?
Favorite OKC venue would have to be Power House. Favorite OKC music store is Larsens. I do my own recording.
Networking and connecting with others who share your dream or vision is a vital aspect to the music industry. Can you share which Oklahoma organizations (if any) have contributed to your success and are there Oklahoma organization you would recommend other connect with? To help further their craft or promotion?
I really believe connecting with other artists is the best way to network and has been the most impactful factor in my career.

Advice for someone interested in working in the music industry.
Best advice I would give someone is to travel as much as possible. Take time and dive into who you are so your music can truly speak to who you are.
