Ken Pomeroy is a 16 year old singer/songwriter with a folk/Americana sound. She began singing, writing songs, and playing the baritone ukulele at age nine, quickly learning to play the concert and soprano ukulele, and at age 10 began playing guitar. Transcending her age, Pomeroy has a unique vocal quality that blends smoothly with her heartfelt lyrics. Her musical influences include such local talent as Kyle Reid, Carter Sampson and John Calvin Abney. She is also influenced by the music of John Moreland and classic artists like John Denver and James Taylor.
In 2016, Pomeroy received the Rising Star award from the Songwriters Association of Norman, and has attended the Rock & Roll Camp for Girls since its inception in 2015. In January of 2018 she played the first Mile 0 Fest in Key West, Florida, and returned to the Fest in January of 2019. Pomeroy was also featured on The Oklahoma Room 2018 compilation CD and attended Folk Alliance International in Kansas City, Missouri, in February of 2018. This album, produced by Horton Records, is available on Bandcamp. Also in 2018 Pomeroy opened for the legendary Wanda Jackson at the Oklahoma Rodeo Centennial Opry and won the first annual Jimmy LaFave Songwriting Contest in Stillwater, Oklahoma, at Willie’s Saloon. She shared the stage with Stoney LaRue and Bo Phillips at the Bob Childers’ Gypsy Cafe Music Festival, benefiting the Red Dirt Relief Fund, also in Stillwater. Every year she is a regular at the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival playing Lou’s Rocky Road Tavern stage, and The Hen House.
Fans can hear Pomeroy playing numerous venues around Oklahoma City and Norman on a regular basis. Sunday is a favorite to hear her and many other talented songwriters at JJ’s Alley in downtown OKC. She has played the Grand Stage at the Riverwind Casino, and she is also a regular at the Oklahoma Rodeo Opry.
“I love what I do. I love to write music and I love that people actually want to come and listen to what I have to say,” said Pomeroy. “It’s a pretty special thing to have people interested in your song and poetry. Being a singer/songwriter from Oklahoma is the icing on the cake, I’m surrounded with the best around. I’ve grown up in this magical collective of Oklahoma singer/songwriters; that kind of led the path to where I am today. The scene is a welcoming family, but you also have to earn your place, so to speak. As a young musician, the opportunities from doing what I love have been life changing. I have traveled all over this country, I have met some truly unforgettable people, and I have had some once in a lifetime experiences.”
Pomeroy released her debut EP “Minutes to Hours” in 2017. She has just completed her second album, “HALLWAYS”, and has released her first music video, for “The Sidewalk Song”. This video is part of a fundraiser she is hosting to raise awareness of the homelessness in Oklahoma City. She is currently trying to raise $5000 for the Homeless Alliance. Learn more here.
