A division of the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department alongside OF+MO, Oklahoma State Parks are film-friendly and have a history of working with films and filmmakers of all kinds. Given the current statewide policies for health and safety surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, most film and television productions are on hiatus; however, many Oklahoma State Parks remain open to offer residents needed outdoor recreation and fitness opportunities with necessary implementations and guidelines in place. Hiking and nature trails as well as fishing areas are open at parks such as Osage Hills and Lake Thunderbird, while Little Sahara offers ATV and 4×4 enthusiasts a chance to ride and escape across 1,600 acres of sandy dunes. Keep in mind some Parks have amended services as it relates to group camping and other amenities. Additional specifics on the Oklahoma State Parks COVID-19 information and updates can be found on the TravelOK website.
If you prefer to explore the parks from your own home during this time, films and television shows such as “The Jurassic Games” (Little Sahara, Robbers Cave), “A Painted Woman” (Lake Thunderbird), “August: Osage County” (Osage Hills) and Starz “American Gods” (Little Sahara) provide a cinematic journey to a few of these places.
