The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO), in collaboration with the City of Claremore and Cherokee Film, is thrilled to announce the city has achieved film friendly certification after meeting the requirements for OF+MO’s Oklahoma Film Friendly Community Program.
“The impact provided by the film industry has a ripple effect,” said Claremore City Manager John Feary. “It provides revenues across a community and other benefits that will be felt for many years. I am confident that the Oklahoma Film Friendly Certification will serve as a catalyst for future opportunities for our community, including support of local businesses and job opportunities for local residents.”
Located within the Cherokee Nation and the first film friendly certified community within Rogers County, Claremore proudly honors its heritage as the hometown of Will Rogers and the site of the Will Rogers Memorial Museum. The city’s downtown district showcases a blend of historic buildings, local restaurants and cultural venues, including the iconic Hammett House Restaurant. Other notable attractions include Claremore Lake Park, Rogers State University, Claremore Mountain Bike Trails and the J.M. Davis Arms & Historical Museum, home to one of the world’s largest collections of firearms and western memorabilia. With convenient access to urban amenities and stunning natural landscapes such as Oologah Lake, this film friendly community has previously welcomed production on a number of film and TV projects, including “A Christmas… Present,” “Unplugging,” “Run with the Hunted,” “King Ivory,” “A Thousand Tomorrows” and “Reservation Dogs.”
“Many film projects have already discovered the unique beauty and endless filming locations in and around Claremore,” said Cherokee Film Senior Director Jennifer Loren. “Achieving this official film friendly status will no doubt attract even more productions to the area, which means more jobs and economic activity within the Cherokee Nation Reservation.
