Heartland Films, LLC in association with the Oklahoma Film + Music Office is pleased to announce production of the feature film “Heartland” to be entirely filmed in Oklahoma.
“Heartland” tells the story of a young artist who, after a tragic loss, returns back to her mother’s stifling household where she finds temporary escape in a reckless weekend affair.
The feature film marks the directorial debut of Maura Anderson (“Winter’s Bone”, “Would You Rather”) who also serves as the film’s producer alongside Oklahoma native Velinda Godfrey, Jennifer Wood and co-producer Chris Freihofer of The Actor Factory in Norman.
Godfrey, who penned the script with co-writer Todd Waring, also stars in the film alongside fellow Oklahoman Laura Spencer (“The Big Bang Theory”, “The Lizzie Bennet Diaries”) and Beth Grant (“The Mindy Project”, “Crazy Heart”).
“This script alternates between the long-lasting traditions of the modern Oklahoma family and the emerging openness of the same heartland dwellers, and in doing so, it presents a truthful look at the conflicted lives of ordinary people who are forced to question their allegiance to love and the value of mere tolerance,” says Velinda Godfrey the film’s lead actress and writer.
“Heartland” will utilize the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program administered by the Oklahoma Film + Music Office. Principal photography on the film will take place in Oklahoma City, Guthrie and the surrounding communities until mid-June.
“The production’s use of the film incentives is a testament to the effectiveness of the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program and its ability to allow filmmakers to maximize their budgets while shooting on-location, thereby creating more job opportunities for our local crew and film-friendly businesses,” said OF+MO Director Tava Sofsky.
