“Ida Red” Now Filming in Oklahoma

Grand Sichuan, LLC, in association with the Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO), is proud to announce the start of principal photography on the feature film “Ida Red”. The production will shoot during the months of August and September in the Tulsa, Oklahoma, area.

The film is written and directed by John Swab (“Body Brokers”), a Tulsa native who has made three other movies using Tulsa as a location. The film is being produced by Swab, Jeremy Rosen (“Charlie Says”) and Robert Ogden Barnum (“Margin Call”).

“Undeterred by the pandemic, this is our third consecutive summer to shoot here in Tulsa,” said Rosen. “We could not make these films the way that we want to make them anywhere else. The local production value, support and incentives make all of the difference.”

The production hired 40 local crew members and ten local cast members to be in the film. Throughout filming, strict precautions were taken on set that followed Oklahoma and SAG-AFTRA COVID-19 protocols. The production has also been working closely with the Tulsa Office of Film, Music, Arts & Culture (TFMAC).

“To see Tulsa-native John Swab and his producing partner Jeremy Rosen returning to Tulsa for their fourth feature is really exciting,” said Abby Kurin, Executive Director of TFMAC. “They are excellent partners and are dedicated to ensuring a safe set for cast and crew, hiring our crew, utilizing local vendors and hotel options, and highlighting various locations throughout Tulsa. They leverage the ease of Tulsa as a backdrop for their projects and are a great example of why Tulsa is a solid choice for the film industry.”

“It has been a pleasure to work with John and his team once again,” said OF+MO Director Tava Maloy Sofsky. “It is rewarding to see such a talented Oklahoman using his local community to bring his projects to life. His continued dedication to Oklahoma has elevated our local infrastructure to a new level.”

Leading cast for “Ida Red” include Melissa Leo (“The Fighter”), who plays the matriarch of a family with several career criminals, including her brother-in-law played by Frank Grillo (“The Grey”) and son played by Josh Hartnett (“Pearl Harbor”).
