The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) is proud to be a presenter of Norman Music Festival’s new livestream series, NMF Transmissions. After being forced to cancel the 2020 rendition of Norman Music Festival (NMF) amidst the continued heath crisis, Norman Music Alliance, who presents NMF, is now bringin this new, free, electrified livestream concert series to digital airwaves on October 9, 2020, at 8:00 p.m.
The series celebrates Oklahoma artists with spirited performances, laser light shows and dynamic action to capture the energy of the beloved festival, but enjoyed from the safety of a viewer’s couch.
Kicking off the series will be Norman psych rockers Helen Kelter Skelter (pictured), their first such performance since the pandemic began. Guitarist and vocalist Eli Wimmer, bassist Aidan McCool, keyboard player Jon Goodell, guitarist Tim Gregory and drummer Scott Twitchell bring individual influences as varied as Hendrix to the Chainsaw Kittens, Nick Drake to Phillip Glass, and the result is a psych-tinged mix of instrumental mastery and thoroughly modern experimentation.
Oklahoma City indie rock outfit Husbands, who released their studio album After the Gold Rush Party in early 2020 and latest single “Garth” in September, will continue the series on Friday, October 30. More will be announced in the weeks to come.
“We were heartbroken to not be able to host our traditional festival this year,” said Joshua Boydston of the Norman Music Alliance board. “It’s such a wonderful, communal experience to be able to get together and celebrate music, especially our homegrown talent. We hope that we can safely do the same through NMF Transmissions, be it connected purely digitally or safe, small gatherings at homes or other watch parties, and enjoy some stellar Oklahoma music with quality production that NMF lovers have come to expect.”
NMF Transmissions is made possible in thanks to partners Oklahoma Film + Music Office, Norman Arts Council, Fowler Auto, Riverwind Casino, Absolut and Armstrong Bank.
“As long-standing partners with Norman Music Festival, our office proudly supports their ongoing initiatives to support and cultivate Oklahoma’s music scene and culture”, said OF+MO Director Tava Maloy Sofsky. “This is another testament to the ingenuity and innovation of Oklahomans, and we are proud to work with NMF to safely bring the energy and excitement of the music festival experience to audiences this weekend at home.”
NMF Transmissions will be available to stream for free on Facebook, YouTube and Twitch.
