The Oklahoma Film + Music Office exists as a resource to Oklahoma’s film and music industries. One of our greatest tools is the Oklahoma Music Directory, a free online database of Oklahoma musicians and music businesses, which continues to be a valuable avenue for targeted messaging to our local industry about opportunities within the state. Frequently, we facilitate open calls for musicians on behalf of festivals throughout the state by sending information directly to artists and businesses registered in our database. Through this initiative, we are able to organically grow our network of industry contacts while also streamlining the festival application process.
The second annual G-Fest Music Festival will host multiple stages with national and local music as well as camping June 15-17, 2017, at Hatbox Field in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Headliners for the 2017 festival include Blackberry Smoke, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Mavericks, The Swon Brothers, John Fullbright, Ben and Noel Haggard plus more. OF+MO hosted a call for musicians for the festival in which 20 artists were chosen to perform, including Nicnos, Gypsy Twang, T.Z. Wright, Nathan Elkins, Stephen Salewon, Klondike5, Morgan and more. Tickets may be purchased online.
The city of Norman will host the 34th annual Jazz in June Festival June 15-17, 2017, at Brookhaven Village and Andrews Park. OF+MO hosted a call for musicians to open on Friday and Saturday evenings in which Claire Piersol was invited to open Friday evening at Brookhaven Village and Ardent Spirits will open the final evening at Andrews Park. Caleb McGee, Mike Hosty & Jamie Oldaker, the Dr. Lonnie Smith Trio, Victor & Penny and the Harold Lopez-Nussa Trio will also perform. In addition to the concerts, Jazz in June will host Clinics throughout the three-day event at the Norman Public Library West. Admission is free and guests are welcome to bring a lawn chair.
The Made in Oklahoma Festival in Midwest City features an array of Made in Oklahoma products and services from wineries, beer breweries, artists, merchants, restaurants, food trucks and more. For the fourth year, OF+MO hosted an open call for Oklahoma musicians to play at the sixth annual festival, held at the Sheraton Midwest City Hotel at the Reed Conference Center on June 17, 2017. Selected musicians will perform for the “Oklahoma Stage Rush” music series (formerly “Live From the Lawn”), which will take place on the festival’s outdoor and indoor stages. The indoor stage will feature Erin O’Dowd, Ken Pomeroy, O’Fidelis, Maggie McClure, Mike Rae and Zac Wenzel; while the outdoor stage will feature Ten Pound Turtles, FM Pilots, Ross Clayton, Skytown, Mary Heather & the Sinners, James Robert Webb and Shane Henry. The festival is free and open to the public. Commemorative festival glassware and tasting tokens may be purchased.
“For the past four years, the Made in Oklahoma Fest has partnered with the Oklahoma Film + Music Office in support of the OF+MO Music Directory and using nothing but Oklahoma musical artists to perform at this annual festival. This supports our mission in promoting buy/shop local. OF+MO call for entries has provided us with a large group of artists to choose from without having to run from event to event and bar to bar to listen to bands. This year we had over 80 bands submit to perform in one of 15 slots between the Friday night VIP reception to the indoor stage and outdoor stage the day of the festival. Their help has been instrumental in supporting this very important facet of the overall Made in Oklahoma Fest,” said Director of Partnerships for the Made in Oklahoma Fest Chris Moler.
