Oklahoma Band, Nicnos, to Start School Program

Oklahoma City-based band Nicnōs has announced the creation of the school program “Music to Your Peers” with a goal to maintain music education.

The band will begin their school tour in Duncan on November 9 at the bands fiddle player Blake Parks’ high school, Duncan High School, with a plan to continue this program with schools across the state in 2016.

Through their own personal stories, the band members aspire to empower high school students to pursue their creative goals while collaborating with the students. Nicnōs will give a performance prior to giving the school band and choir the opportunity to each perform a song in front of their peers during the afternoon assembly as well as later in the evening at a community show. Nicnōs hopes to bring a concert atmosphere to school auditoriums with an overall message that motivates students to be successful and work hard to accomplish their dreams.

“We are proud to positively impact students and support music education in Oklahoma with our new program, ‘Music to Your Peers’,” said Parks.

Following the daytime workshop and music program, an evening performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Duncan High School auditorium. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door or at the Duncan High School main office. 50% of the ticket sales will be donated to the host schools music department and the remaining 50% will be donated to an underfunded music school or music department in Oklahoma.

“The compassion that Oklahoma band Nicnos will exhibit by unleashing their talents to invest into aspiring artists at the high school age level is admirable. We wish them great success on their journey around the state beginning in Duncan this month,” said Tava Maloy Sofsky, director of the Oklahoma Film + Music Office.
