The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) is proud to announce its support of The Resonance Series presented by the University of Oklahoma (OU) Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts’ School of Music. With events occurring on campus and throughout the City of Norman February 8-9, this season’s Resonance Series will feature internationally renowned, Grammy award-winning musicians Shayna Steele and David Cook.
“Since starting in 2020, the Resonance Series from the University of Oklahoma’s School of Music has brought in dozens of musicians from the most successful bands on the planet to the State of Oklahoma for a series of guest lectures and music-focused events,” said Eric Walschap, OU Adjunct Professor of Music and Arts Management and Resonance Series Coordinator. “From the drummers of Kendrick Lamar and Beyonce to the bassists for Sting and Miley Cyrus, we’ve been honored to have hosted such incredible talent for our students and community, and we’re thrilled to be able to continue furthering our education and outreach efforts through the support of our leadership and valued partners as we welcome the incredible talents of Shayna Steele and David Cook to Resonance.”
Shayna Steele is an eight-time Tony- and Grammy-winning artist with Broadway credits including “RENT,” “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Hairspray,” the latter of which she is an original company member. In addition to singing with Moby, Rihanna, Chris Botti and Bette Midler, Steele is also a #1 Billboard charting solo artist herself with music appearing in films like “The Bourne Identity.” Joining her is husband David Cook, a 15-time Grammy- and Emmy-winning artist who, for the last 12 years, has been the Musical Director and pianist for Taylor Swift, with previous collaborations with NSYNC, Kesha, Maren Morris and Thomas Rhett.
“The level of talent the Resonance Series is making accessible to local music students, professionals and enthusiasts is astounding,” said Jeanette Stanton, OF+MO Director. “We’re thrilled to support this series, which activates and engages Oklahoma’s dynamic music industry and furthers opportunities for education, workforce development and business strategy within this sector.”
Throughout the Resonance series, Steele and Cook will engage in several key events over the two-day period, including:
- Resonance Talk and Q&A with David Cook and Shayna Steele – Catlett Music Center Pitman Hall, OU Campus (February 8 at 1:30 p.m.)
