Pantheon Digital and the Friends of Honey Springs, in association with the Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO), are proud to announce the completion of principal photography for “The Battle of Honey Springs”.
The historical short film recounts the events that took place during Oklahoma’s largest Civil War engagement on July 17, 1863. The filming for this production took place at the original Honey Springs battle site, located just north of what is now Checotah, Oklahoma.
“I was raised in Oklahoma City, and after working in Los Angeles for the past 22 years, it’s always a pleasure to work in my home state again,” said Producer/Director Bryan Beasley. “This is my third production for the Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS), and the organization consistently creates projects that are new and ambitious. As we put together our biggest project to date for the OHS, I was excited to find a wealth of talented cast and crew right here in Oklahoma.”
In addition to Beasley, Jon and Jaime Roman are producers for the project, who were both raised in Oklahoma. The production is employing 23 local industry members and boasts a nearly all-local cast.
“The film industry in Oklahoma has consistently expanded over the past few years, and we’ve seen an increase in experienced local actors and crew members that reflects this growth,” said OF+MO director Tava Maloy Sofsky. “We’re thrilled that this project is using Oklahoma talent to tell a story that is an essential piece of our state’s history.”
The historical re-enactment will be part of an immersive experience at The Battle of Honey Springs Visitor’s Center. The film will interact seamlessly with the museum exhibit, and it will also air at a future date as a stand-alone short on PBS.
