For the second year, the Oklahoma Film + Music Office is proud to sponsor The Journal Record’s Battle of the Corporate Bands where company-sponsored bands have been selected to face off in an exciting live competition.
Each band will have 15 minutes to perform a minimum of three songs. The bands will be judged on music, originality, on-stage presence, appearance and personality, as well as crowd applause. The winning band will receive a donation made in its name to the charity of its choice as well as the event’s traveling trophy to take back to the office.
“Battle of the Corporate Bands will feature a variety of music genres,” said Jessica Burleson, Events Manager at The Journal Record. “This event is like no other event put on by The Journal Record. Come watch business and music collide!”
Participating bands and sponsoring companies are: James Brown and the HazBand backed by Advanced Masonry, Inc.; RJ & the 45s backed by Cory’s Audio Visual; Smooth Agents backed by Alan & Karissa Bradshaw Farmers Insurance Agencies; and Red Club backed by S&S Promotions.
Judges this year include Daisy Creager with The Journal Record Publishing Company, Dave Rhea with Phillips Murrah P.C. and Garrett Starks with Castle Row Studios.
“I’m super excited to be a judge at this year’s event!” said Starks. “No doubt the competition will be fierce and I can’t wait to see how these local musicians shine.”
The event will take place Thursday, August 8, from 6:00 p.m. to – 9:00 p.m. at The University of Central Oklahoma Jazz Lab, located at 100 E. 5th St. in Edmond, Oklahoma.
