The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) is proud to be a returning sponsor of Bob Childers’ Gypsy Café, Oklahoma’s largest homegrown songwriter festival, to be held in Stillwater, Okla., Sunday, May 7. Now in its 12th year, the festival will span five stages with acoustic song swap sets from 70 Oklahoma songwriters, including festival staples such as Cody Canada, John Fullbright, Carter Sampson, Mike Hosty, Monica Taylor and Bryon White, as well as nearly a dozen new voices and the winner of the festival’s Jimmy LaFave Songwriting Contest.
The festival benefits the Red Dirt Relief Fund, a nonprofit that provided aid to more than half the artists in the lineup and more than 800 music professionals statewide over the past decade.
“Thanks to the continued support of our partners at the Oklahoma Film + Music Office, we have grown Bob Childers’ Gypsy Cafe to include three new venues, more songwriters than ever before and a ‘White Buffalo Brunch,’ featuring the Red Dirt Rangers, Randy Crouch, Cody Canada, Carter Sampson, Mike McClure and friends doing a tribute set of all Bob Childers’ songs,” said Red Dirt Relief Fund Executive Director Katie Dale. “Stillwater is the birthplace of Red Dirt music, and we are committed to evolving this festival to celebrate that history while showcasing the future of Oklahoma songwriting.”
Festival venues will be centrally located throughout Stillwater. All ages are welcome at performance stages at Eskimo Joe’s and the White Buffalo Brunch at Stonecloud Taproom. The Grand Casino Stage at Outlaws, Coors Light Stage at Salty Bronc and George’s Stables will be for 21+ audiences. The festival will provide a free shuttle running a loop around the general admission venues May 7 from 1 to 8 p.m.
“OF+MO is proud to be a continuing partner of the Gypsy Café,” said OF+MO Director Jeanette Stanton. “This event not only celebrates both our state’s trailblazing efforts in pioneering the Red Dirt genre and our talented homegrown musicians, but also supports the critical work of the Red Dirt Relief Fund in assisting our music industry and creative ecosystem throughout the year.”
General admission tickets are $30 in advance or $35 the day of and $25 for students with ID. A limited number of tickets for the White Buffalo Brunch and Reserved Seating at the Eskimo Joe’s Main Stage range from $80 to $150.
